36 Hours in the Raleigh, North Carolina Area

As a former New Yorker who moved to the Raleigh area many years ago, some of the things I thought I'd miss about my old stomping grounds were the abundance of museums, cultural activities and great restaurants.

Despite the fact that it took me a little while to find good sushi (we have it now!) and decent pizza (got that too!), the area commonly known as the Triangle has grown into a place where just about anything can be found.

Recently the New York Times (yes, I still read it daily) ran an article in the travel section exposing the happy medium between our "slow paced Southern charm and our urban cool."

36 Hours in Research Triangle, N.C.

From museums, to great places to have a cold frosty beverage, to places to catch a great band, the article does a wonderful job of giving a glimpse of the Raleigh/ Durham/ Chapel Hill area...and an even better job of reminding me why I moved here in the first place.

Cary North Carolina A Brief History and Why You Should Move Here!

Cary, North Carolina, home of the nation’s first ever Planned Unit Development (PUD), was founded in 1750 and originally named Bradford’s Ordinary.

In 1854, Allison Francis "Frank" Page bought 300 acres of farmland and renamed his little purchase Cary, after Samuel Fenton Cary, a former Ohio congressman whom he admired. Page planned the first streets in Cary and he built a sawmill, a general store and a post office. Cary was incorporated in 1879 and Page became the town’s first Postmaster and eventually its first Mayor.

Located in Wake County, just minutes from downtown Raleigh, Cary was the fastest growing municipality between 2006 and 2007.

Government leaders in this beautiful town have long held as a priority the value of keeping Cary clean, green and aesthetically pleasing.

Cary has won numerous awards as one of the nation’s best places to live, work and play. Home of the USA Baseball team, excellent medical facilities, and great schools and shopping, it’s no wonder why so many relocate here and why the ones who already have love calling Cary home!

Apex North Carolina "The Peak of Good Living"

Apex, North Carolina, a tiny suburb just minutes from downtown Raleigh, is a great little town located in the Southwest portion of Wake County. Known as the "The Peak of Good Living", Apex has grown to nearly 30,000 people, but never forgot the small town charm that made it such a desirable place to call home.

Incorporated in 1873, Apex was named for its location as the highest point on the Chatham Railroad line which ran from Richmond, Virginia down to Jacksonville, Florida.

In keeping with its rich tradition as one of the oldest railroad towns in North Carolina, Apex’s Chamber of Commerce building is a renovated model of the original train depot.

Residents of Apex used to have to go to neighboring Cary for much of their shopping needs. But the recent creation of the Beaver Creek Shopping Center has put a halt to that. With nationally recognized stores, restaurants and even a multiplex movie theater, the Beaver Creek Shopping Center is as busy as can be.

In 2007, CNN/Money magazine voted Apex 14th on its list of the nation's top 100 small towns to live in! Award winning schools, medical facilities and our great weather just go to prove that Apex really is the Peak of Good Living!
